The Goguikian Foundation Leadership Program Students Visit MoPH

On Saturday February 16, 2013, a group of the Goguikian Foundation scholarship recipients visited the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health. Ministry visits are an ongoing part of the Citizenship class of their Leadership training course. The aim of these visits is to offer students a chance to gain insight about the work of the different Ministries.

At the Ministry of Public Health, the students were welcomed by the president of the Practical Medical Section, Dr. Assad Khoury who hosted the group during their visit.

Dr. Khoury stated that the main objective of the Ministry of Public health was to improve the health status of the population by providing high-quality health services through governmental hospitals and dispensaries and improving access to health care throughout the nation.

The students had a chance to present the Foundation and its aims and were then given a tour of the facilities and the different departments of the ministry with an explanation of the specific functions of each department.

The visit ended with a Q & A session where Dr. Khoury answered student questions regarding public health management and the different challenges facing the ministry as it undertakes its activities.

Among the 17 scholarship recipients of the Foundation, Lucie Sagherian has already graduated with a MS degree in Public Health Management from AUB and is currently working with the WHO in close collaboration with the MoPH , another, Cynthia Najjar, is currently studying Public Health at the University of Balamand , and three new applicants have applied for a scholarship for Public Health for academic year 2013-2014.
