Lebanese researchers shared the findings of their studies during the 1st edition of GTALKS, an initiative of The Goguikian Foundation

 

The studies tackled:

ONLINE ALGORITHMS, NEURO-FINANCE, AIR POLLUTION, FAMILY FRIENDLY POLICIES, MONETARY POLICY. 

The Goguikian Foundation, is a not-for-profit, apolitical, philanthropic NGO which promotes Youth Empowerment through various programs. GTALKS, a global platform, is an initiative of the Goguikian Foundation which promotes young Lebanese researchers and sheds light on their innovation and ingenuity. 

During this episode of GTALKS, five PhD holders shared their research findings. Each one of them gave a 7-minute presentation in English, in addition to a 5-minute Q&A. 

Dr. Christine Markarian, Ph.D. in Computer Science – University of Paderborn, Germany. Dr. Markarian’s research is based on the creation of new solutions using algorithms to make wise decisions in situations where the future is unknown. 

She has published more than 25 research papers in international peer-reviewed journals and conferences on Algorithms & Complexity, Combinatorial Optimization, Online Algorithms, Distributed Computing, Graph Theory, Wireless Networks, Operation Research, Cloud Computing and Scheduling.

Dr. Sara Makhoul, Ph.D. in Business Science – Lebanese University. Dr. Makhoul is a Professor at The Faculty of Business and Economics at the Lebanese University, Branch III. Her research examines the role of emotions inFinancial Decision Making among entrepreneurs. This research, which examines the physical neurology of decision making, is the first of its kind in Lebanon.

Dr. Charbel Afif, Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences- Université Saint Joseph (USJ), Université Val de Marne (Paris 12). Dr. Afif is a Professor at the Faculty of Sciences at USJ and an Adjunct Associate Professor at The Energy, Environment and Water Research Center (EEWRC) – Cyprus Institute. He leads the “Emissions, Measurements, and Modeling of the Atmosphere” (EMMA) research group at USJ. Dr. Afif is also the Technical Director of the Center for Analysis and Research at the Faculty of Sciences at USJ. He is an international expert in the field of air pollution with more than 15 years of experience. He has more than 40 scientific publications, more than 50 conference papers and contributed to two books. This one has a lot of his qualifications, but nothing about what he actually talked about.

Dr. Nada Khaddage Sobh, Ph.D. in Business Administration (Human Resources Management), Lebanese University. Dr. Khaddage is the Director of the MBA program at the Science and Technology University in Lebanon, she is a certified Master Life and Business Coach, Master Practitioner of Neuro Linguistic Programming, Time-line Therapy and Hypnotherapy. Her research is an exploration of the Lebanese labor laws in regards to Family Friendly Policies (FFP). Since FFPs benefit employers, families, the economy and the society as a whole, Nada has concentrated her research on Lebanon’s labor laws and how to improve them to create a more family-friendly environment in the workplace. Her publications are about empowering employees through FFPs.

As for Dr. Patrick Karawani, Ph.D. in Economics- Lebanese University, he is a Portfolio Manager at Bank Saradar. He studied economics for almost 10 years in both France and Lebanon which allowed him to develop his own unique view to Monetary Policy, and to reinterpret different economic concepts and to reformulate them in his own way. He has published several academic papers on Growth, Business Cycles, and Economic Policy.
